Chris
Ludwa was appointed as Music Director and Conductor of the Bloomington Symphony
Orchestra in April 2005. He is also the Artistic Director of the Indianapolis
Arts Chorale, Conductor of the Bloomington Pops Orchestra and Director of Arts
at the International School of Indiana. He has been Assistant Conductor of the
Columbus Indiana Philharmonic, Music Director of both the Philharmonic Youth Orchestra and Ensembles in Columbus, Indiana, and Director of Music at Meridian
Street United Methodist Church in Indianapolis. In addition to these posts, he
maintains an active guest conducting and freelance schedule while continuing his
work as a consultant on various arts-in-education initiatives.
Since receiving his
Master's Degree in Conducting from Indiana University, the Cincinnati native has
been very active in the Midwest arts scene, conducting church choirs,
orchestras, oratorios, and a variety of other programs, working for Indianapolis
Opera as Apprentice Conductor/Outreach Administrator for three years. He has
served as guest conductor for many different organizations including Webster
University, Bay View Music Festival, Indianapolis Chamber Orchestra, Civic
Theatre, and various others. In February
2004, he organized a massive, two-day clean-up with over 80 volunteers to
re-open a 700-seat auditorium in downtown Indianapolis to rave reviews after
having been dormant for 40 years. The hall is in use today by several
Indianapolis arts organizations and continues to work toward a full renovation.
