Helpful Hints for a
Great Day at the Picnic

What is it?  Monroe County’s biggest, happiest summertime event!  Hear the Bloomington POPS -- Indiana’s only exclusive POPS orchestra -- play traditional summertime favorites and stirring patriotic music. A premier family-oriented event, all will enjoy “Family, Friends, Food, Fun & Fireworks” – and fantastic music!

When is it? July 2, 2011

Where is it? On the beautiful campus of Ivy Tech Community College, just about a mile west of 37 on S. R. 48 (Whitehall Pike)

What time does it start?  Gates open at 6 pm;concert starts at 8 pm

Where do I park?  Ivy Tech and its business neighbors provide ample parking with shuttle transportation provided.

Is handicapped parking available?  Yes, ample handicapped parking is available with roaming golf carts to assist you.

What do I bring?

  • Your tickets (unless you have made arrangements to pick up at the gate);
  • Your cooler filled with all your favorite picnic food and beverages
  • Table covering and service
  • Your table decorations
  • Candle(s) and candleholders
  • Blankets/folding chairs for general admission ticket holders
  • Flashlight for after-dark safety purposes
  • A camera to capture your good time!
  • Hand held umbrella (just in case!)

Can I bring my dog?  Sorry, Fido is not allowed on the grounds of Ivy Tech.

Won’t my kids be bored?  Are you kidding? The gates will open at 6 pm, and there will be a Grand Illusion Show by Extreme Entertainment starting at 7:00.  Also an exciting launch of beautiful hot air balloons between 7 and 7:15.    The concert kicks off with the traditional Children’s Parade which you do not want to miss!

What about me?  I’m not crazy about classical music.  First of all this is not your grandmother’s orchestra concert. POPS music is “popular” music.  When you attend a POPS concert, you will hear everything from Tchaikovsky’s 1812 Overture to Disney tunes!

What if I don’t have time to pack a picnic supper?  There will be food vendors on site for your convenience.

How do I dress?  Dress up for the occasion…or be cool and dress in red, white and blue!  Most importantly, be comfortable!

Do I have to decorate my table?  Heck no!  But if you do, you may win one of three really cool prizes for best table decorations.
