Since 1996, Picnic with the POPS has become the Bloomington Independence Day tradition. This year’s celebration will be held on Saturday, June 28, 2008 on the campus of Ivy Tech Community College. Pre-concert activities for adults and children begin in the afternoon, and the highlight of the day, a performance by the Bloomington POPS Orchestra & Chorus, starts at 8:00 pm.
This year’s musical program promises to enthrall young and old alike. The concert begins with the children’s parade, a military color guard and salute to our armed forces. The concert ends with a rousing performance of the 1812 Overture complete with cannons and a fabulous fireworks finale!
Pre-concert activities will include a children’s area full of games and fun events, prizes for best table decorations, live music by the Bloomington Community Band and the “Spirit of Freedom” Jazz combo.
Many patrons pack a special picnic supper to enjoy during the event. However, there will be a variety of food vendors available for all to enjoy.
There is plenty of parking on site, with shuttle transportation also available. Handicap parking and facilities are available as well. |
